A routine helps me control my mornings, evenings and gives me something to look forward to. I used to make routines that felt forced and where more mornings than not they wouldn’t get done. This is when I realized that it’s my routine and should serve me in a way that I look forward to. If this is something I’m doing every morning and night, then it will end up taking a good portion of my life, and I may as well enjoy it. Start each day with a task completed, and it will turn into more tasks completed. End each night as prepared for the next morning as possible, and you will thank yourself. Always fit in something that lets you take a breath and slow down, even if it’s only for a few minutes. Take time to check in with someone you love, and always try to do something that pushes you mentally or physically.
On some days, when I feel caught up in the whirlwind of everyday tasks, I will always fit in one of those activities that just gives me a “breath”. Whether it’s the running I spoke of earlier, a walk outside, a car ride with some music, or just breathing while sitting in the sun, those few minutes can change the outcome of your week. It truly is those small moments where you are able to escape from your mind that you gain an outside perspective on how actually ok everything really is. This day, week, and month will pass so just look at the bigger picture and do something that your future self will thank you for.
