3/21: Make it flow!

For more on routines, one of the first things I figured out after trying and failing to create a good morning routine was that none of it made sense logistically. Your routine must flow together where one good habit leads to another and another. If you have a goal to drink water first thing, fill up a cup the night before and leave it in your fridge so you have a nice cold cup waiting for you in the morning. If you want to walk on the treadmill or go for a run, leave your walking clothes and shoes on the counter so you are that much closer to following through on it. If you have goals such as cardio or something difficult in the morning, ensure you follow it up with something pleasant, so your internal reward system learns that when you get the hard task done, it is followed by something you enjoy.

I used to always say I would go for a run at the end of my day, but often, I never made it happen, so now it is the first thing I do in the morning. Although I still never quite feel like it, my running shoes and clothes are sitting on the counter for me, and I know that after I get it done, I will be more productive in the morning. When I am finished with work at the end of the day, I already got my cardio done and won’t be dreading it. Overall, make sure your routine flows together, makes sense logistically, prep your environment for success and start your day off with something you usually procrastinate to set the tone for the day.
