Digital Tools for Sales

In my previous blog, I discussed how to earn the first meeting. Here, let’s talk about how tech sales can feel like juggling a million things at once. Between prospecting, following up, and keeping deals moving, having the right tools is a lifesaver. I’m Rye Overly, and after years of trying out pretty much everything out there, here’s what I’ve found actually works.

CRM Tools: Your Digital Rolodex

I don’t know anyone in tech sales who can survive without a solid CRM. I usually go with HubSpot or Salesforce depending on the size of the company. The main thing is keeping all your interactions in one place. If you’re not tracking follow-ups, emails, calls, or notes somewhere, you’re basically flying blind.

Outreach Automation: Less Busywork, More Results

Automation tools like Outreach.io or SalesLoft are lifesavers. You can set up email sequences, calls, and LinkedIn touches without manually keeping track of every step. That said, don’t over-automate. A little personal touch goes a long way. I’ve seen tiny tweaks, like mentioning a recent blog a prospect wrote make response rates jump.

LinkedIn Tools: Social Selling Done Right

LinkedIn isn’t just a resume site, it’s a goldmine if you use it right. Sales Navigator lets you zero in on the right prospects, filter by role, company size, or even activity. I like to pair it with real engagement, like commenting on posts or sharing insights. It makes reaching out feel genuine instead of spammy.

Data and Prospecting: Do Your Homework

ZoomInfo, Clearbit, and other data platforms are great for finding emails and company info. But here’s my advice: don’t just copy-paste info and hit send. Take a few minutes to understand what the prospect actually does. Relevance matters more than volume.

Communication Tools: Keep Everyone on the Same Page

Slack, Zoom, Teams, you probably already use them, but they matter more than you think. Quick communication can save deals from stalling. I’ve lost track of how many times a fast answer or quick internal sync has made a difference in moving a deal forward.

Final Thoughts

Tech sales isn’t about working harder, it’s about working smarter. The right tools make life easier, but only if you actually use them thoughtfully. CRMs help you stay organized. Automation saves time. LinkedIn connects you. Data informs you. And communication keeps everything moving.

These are the tools I, Rye Overly, use every day. Try them out, tweak your process, and don’t be afraid to change things up as you learn what works for you.
