4/3: AI: Good or Bad?

Artificial intelligence has massively shifted the work and school environment in 2023. The most used AI has been ChatGPT. Considering ChatGPT only launched in November of 2022 it is impressive and somewhat terrifying how far the technology has already advanced. Students have been utilizing the platform to write plagiarism-free essays while professionals have used the site to write social content for marketing campaigns. ChatGPT can respond with almost freakishly human-like responses that you would be unable to differentiate from typical online translators we have seen in the past. Although there are some benefits to these AI systems, professionals acquainted with the industry have warned against the continued progression of these technologies warning that advanced AI technology could “pose profound risks to humanity and society”.

From a marketing standpoint, the technology is already seen as a risk to creatives jobs in the field as AI has been able to generate incredible creative work in a far more efficient manner than a professional in the field. Not only are creatives jobs at risk, but from a strategic standpoint as well. Noted in Adweek, AI was able to generate a script for an American Airlines commercial. Although the script was low quality and clearly not written by a human, we have already seen how quickly this technology can advance so the question remains; what will this technology be capable of in a year or even five years down the road?

Overall, AI technology is advancing at an alarming rate and raises questions of what this will look like in the years to come. What advertising jobs will remain pertinent and necessary while what jobs will be abandoned and left to more efficient and cost-effective solutions?
